The fire alarm call point is a device which you will find mounted on a wall. When activated by pressing a button, it triggers the main fire alarm system. Not all fire alarm call points are the same: there are a lot of different options to suit different environments – such as industrial units, factories, hospitals, care homes and schools. There are also strict rules about the positioning of alarm call points: they have to be placed near to designated routes and fire exits. A person must be able to reach the closest call point by travelling no more than 45m. An area with an alarm activation point needs to be lit well and free from obstructions.
