Did you know that fireworks can travel at up to 150mph? Or that three sparklers burning together are as hot as a blowtorch? There is a reason that it is illegal to sell fireworks to people under 18, and why throwing a firework is a criminal offence punishable by a £5,000 fine: in the wrong hands, fireworks can be lethal.

Bonfire Night Accidents

  • Up to 1000 injuries are caused in October and November as a result of fireworks
  • Half of those injuries are to children
  • Half of the firework injuries require hospital treatment

  • Lay fireworks out carefully away from flammable materials
  • Warn people before lighting a firework
  • Once lit, keep clear of the firework
  • Keep used fireworks in a bucket of water
  • Carefully dispose of wet fireworks afterwards
